The Benefits Advice Service is created for the individual who is struggling financially due to ill health or loss of employment. For those who have been wrongly refused we help them with the appeals process, which is initially done by requesting a mandatory reconsideration appeals and representations at tribunal hearings.  We also offer home visits and form filling service. Our team member will make contact for an initial consultation. 
This service includes:
  1. General benefit check to maximise income
  2. Assistance with benefit application including form filling
  3. Assistance with issues such as back-payments, over-payments, re-considerations and appeals, which include representation at independent tribunals.

Work Experience:

Abayomi Olowu has over 20 years of experience in giving Welfare Benefits Advice. He has a detailed knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits namely:

  •     Personal Independence Payment

  •     Attendance Allowance

  •     Industrial Injuries Disability Living Allowance

  •     Employment and Support Allowance

  •     Incapacity Benefit

  •     Severe Disablement Allowance

  •     Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

  •     Tax Credit

  •     Universal Credit 

  •     As well as benefits for carers like the Carers Allowance, Income Support and Carers Premium.

Through training and hands-on experience, Yomi has considerable experience in accessing case laws with accurate interpretation. He is proficient in the use of CPAG and the Disability Rights Handbook.

Presently, Yomi is a Welfare Rights Adviser with the Croydon Welfare Rights Team.  Prior to this, he was as an adviser at the Beddington and Wallington Citizens Advice Bureau, where he

started initially as a volunteer until subsequently securing paid jobs as an adviser in the Sutton and Merton CABX.

In April 1997 Yomi joined the Beckenham & Penge CAB as a welfare rights adviser. During this period, he was initiating and undertaking benefits take-up campaign among the Broomleigh Housing Association tenants.  He was providing information, advice and assistance on a wide range of welfare benefits, including form filling, appeals and representation at Tribunals.

In Jan 1998 Yomi returned to Beddington and Wallington CAB as an outreach adviser, before joining Croydon Welfare Rights Team in 1999.  

CORE SKILLS:

Yomi has an in-depth knowledge and experience in welfare rights, tax credit, housing, debt and immigration. However, he plays a more specialist role in welfare rights advice, particularly mandatory reconsideration, revisions, super-sessions, and appeals.

Yomi also provides representation. This involves preparing cases for appeal on the client’s behalf, written submissions and representation at Independent Tribunals and Upper Tribunals.

In addition, Yomi devises welfare benefits training materials and facilitates training courses for agencies, professionals and service providers in the Local Authority namely care managers, support workers, housing officers, assessment officers, health and care professionals.
